Are you an experienced MD with a passion for clinical trials and patient safety? Join us as a Medical Director and play a key role in shaping the future of clinical development.

Are you looking for your next career step in clinical research? Would you like to play a key role in guiding clinical development and ensuring patient safety in an innovative biopharmaceutical company? Welcome to join a team that is building a biopharmaceutical success story and a better tomorrow.
We are now looking for a Medical Director for our partner Aurealis Therapeutics for a permanent position.
The role can be based in Kuopio or elsewhere in Finland, with the possibility for remote work within Finland.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Medical Director, you will play a key role in Aurealis’ clinical development together with the Chief Medical Officer. You will provide medical leadership and contribute to the design, execution, and evaluation of clinical trials across their full lifecycle.
The role combines strategic medical oversight with hands-on involvement in clinical projects. You will act as a medical expert, supporting the organization especially in clinical study design, safety evaluation, and interpretation of clinical data.
A key focus area will be the planning of clinical trials, especially the preparation of upcoming Phase III studies. You will provide medical input to protocols, synopses, and other key documents, while ensuring that study execution meets high standards from a patient safety perspective.
The role also involves close collaboration with external partners. With clinical trials largely outsourced to CROs, you will ensure high-quality medical oversight, documentation, and reporting.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
Developing and reviewing clinical development plans and study protocols
Providing medical guidance during clinical trials and interpreting clinical data
Overseeing patient safety and collaborating with the Drug Safety Officer
Reviewing CRO-generated documentation and reports
Participating in interactions with regulatory authorities (EMA, FDA etc.)
Collaborating with KOLs, study sites, and external scientific experts
You will be part of an experienced team and report to the Chief Medical Officer.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
👉 Medical degree (MD) or equivalent (PhD considered an advantage)
👉 Approximately 5 years of experience in clinical trials within drug development
👉 Understanding of clinical trial design and execution (Phases I–IV)
👉 Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical legislation, GCP requirements, EMA regulations, ICH guidelines, and clinical trial methodology
👉 Experience working with CROs
👉 Understanding of drug safety and pharmacovigilance
👉 Ability to interpret scientific data and make well-founded decisions
👉 Fluency in English
As a Medical Director, you have a strong medical background and the ability to combine clinical expertise with an understanding of drug development and sound decision-making. You can evaluate both the big picture and detailed data, particularly from a patient safety perspective. You possess strong collaboration and communication skills, and you work effectively with various stakeholders, driving initiatives forward in a structured and goal-oriented manner.
Experience with FDA regulations or working in U.S. or other international regulatory environments is considered an advantage. In addition, familiarity with marketing authorization processes (such as MAA or BLA submissions), as well as experience in areas such as cell and gene therapies, oncology, or chronic wound care, will support success in this role.
